Always Already to conceptualize the aesthetic and design the space for its second restaurant in Seattle, Robin’s Restaurant &amp; Market. Our scope ranged in scale from designing the overall space plan and flow, to specifying and designing every small object the guest interfaced with, including tableware, artworks, and market goods. We worked closely with both international vendors and local craftspeople alike - from commissioning pieces from Sabre Paris and Figgjo Norway to fabricating custom tables and an innovative shelving system from local woodworker Sam Noble. The goal of the redesign was to create a space and setting that would let the food and experience shine; this was accomplished through cleaning up the visual field and introducing key new features including a custom monumental ceiling light installation and bespoke, custom-made banquettes that embodied the overall concept of the restaurant - clean and crisp with a dash of grit and whimsy. Untouched since its construction in 1959, the main living space was previously uncomfortably partitioned with a small, dark kitchen. Considering the tight footprint, our goal was to create a highly functional yet seamlessly integrated kitchen for our avid home-chef client. The end result is a serene, light-flooded and expansive living space with a self-contained yet open kitchen. increasingly small rooms over the course of its over 100-year history, this spacious Hamilton Heights apartment was rife with potential to be brought back to its original glory, albeit with modern amenities and a contemporary aesthetic. Our primary goal was to create an open and light-filled living room, dining room, and kitchen, as well as a master suite for the client, a writer. The deep floor plan challenged us to find ways to bring light to the interior and rear of the apartment. Details such as the rounding of wall/ceiling seams and a bespoke glass and steel door enabled us to wash the space with light.Always Already was commissioned as both the architectural and interior designer of this project, selecting all furniture, fixtures, and finishes in addition to designing the space plan and architectural details. 2017 BOCA Biennial, we were commissioned to design an itinerant theater for Cuban artist Tania Bruguera’s debut theatrical piece - a radical staging of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame. Bruguera’s vision capitalized on the universal dynamics of domination, power, and the limits of freedom as explored in the play. We worked collaboratively with Bruguera to create a comprehensive environment where these dynamics would bleed off the stage and permeate the viewer’s total experience. The result is a 14m x 14m x 9m structure that contains both the stage and 82 audience members, and which was designed to be repeatedly rebuilt over the course of its International tour.The design was conceived to be highly portable using the International Peri Up Scaffolding System, the structural elements of which can be rented in most any city in the world. The piece premiered at BOCA Biennial in Porto, Portugal, April 2017; subsequent residencies included Kunstenfestivaldesarts/Brussels/May 2017, Kampnagel/Hamburg/August 2017, Nanterre-Amandiers/Paris/September 2017. The structure is a dark and severe block of scaffolding, dropped as an object in the various vast spaces that host it. A pristine white cylinder is mysteriously lodged inside the structure. Four discrete entrances bring audience members deep into and up the structure to their vieweing spots, where they peer through slits in the cylinder to watch the play unfold below. Isolated against the white textile, the audience’s faces become woven into the backdrop which flickers between stark opacity and revealing translucency.project credits- Director: Tania Bruguera
